The Koetsu Blue Lace Onyx Platinum is considered one of the most exclusive, rare, and high-performing Moving Coil (MC) phono cartridges ever made. Crafted by the legendary Japanese brand Koetsu, this cartridge represents the absolute pinnacle of their stone-body design.
Due to the extreme rarity of the material, Koetsu traditionally crafted only two units per year, making it a holy grail for top-tier audiophiles.
Design & Construction
- Semi-Precious Stone Body: Sculpted from a solid block of Blue Lace Onyx (a rare agate variant with blue, grey, and white layers of fused quartz). This material was chosen for its high rigidity, which provides exceptional resonance damping.
- Platinum Magnets: Unlike the Samarium-Cobalt magnets used in lower-tier models, this version uses rare platinum magnets for expanded dynamics and an incredibly lifelike soundstage.
- Elite Internal Wiring: The coils are hand-wound with ultra-pure (6N) silver-clad copper wire.
- Boron Cantilever: It features a stiff, precise boron cantilever. Ultra-rare custom versions were also made with a diamond cantilever.
