An absolutely stunning example of late Victorian jewellery craftsmanship, this elegant bar brooch features a richly coloured central amethyst framed by delicate mother of pearl accents in a classic Victorian mourning-inspired design.
The brooch is in near perfect antique condition with no major visible scratches to the central gemstone. There is only very minor tarnishing and slight case hardening around the mother of pearl bezel settings, consistent with age. The central amethyst displays a vivid deep purple colour and remains beautifully presented, with only one tiny surface chip located towards the lower section of the stone.
During the Victorian era, purple gemstones such as amethyst were often associated with mourning jewellery, making this piece a wonderful reflection of the period’s history and sentimentality. The brooch is crafted in the traditional bar style popular during the late Victorian period.
To the reverse is the original fastening loop designed to secure the attached safety chain beneath a garment for additional security while being worn. The safety chain has been tested and confirmed as 9ct gold.
The brooch itself is stamped “9ct” in two places within the metalwork.
