This Sheridan Silver Plate Serving Tray, 12.75" Ornate Heavy Rococo, was manufactured in the 1940s and 1950s (see Hallmark info below) by the Sheridan Silver Company of Taunton, Massachusetts. The tray features a Rococo / Baroque Revival style. This design is characterized by heavy, asymmetric, and sweeping scrollwork, stylized foliage (like acanthus leaves), and deeply textured "repoussé" or cast borders. The flat interior surface of the tray typically features highly detailed, chased or engraved floral and scroll patterns. This engraving was intentionally designed to mask scratch marks caused by glassware or utensils during service.

Condition: Excellent vintage used and clean condition. The thick quadruple silver plating has beautifully preserved the mirror finish across the entire tray face. There is no major silver loss or base metal bleeding through. Free of heavy dents, deep scratches, or repairs. Shows beautiful, bright reflectivity with only light, expected age-appropriate surface wear/micro-scratches.

Hallmark: 1940s-1950s pieces from the company often used a mock British hallmark containing three separate symbols (a crown, a stylized "S", and a shield) inside small connected frames. Moving to the typed "Sheridan" name made identification faster for consumers.

The "Silverplated" Stamp: This is a mandatory transparency disclosure. Because the mock heraldic symbols used by American silverplate companies looked so much like official British sterling silver hallmarks, manufacturers stamped "Silverplated" directly on the piece to legally clarify that it was an electroplated base metal, not solid sterling silver.

Measuring approximately 12.75-13 inches in diameter & 1” tall, and weighing well over 2.5 pounds, its substantial weight mimics the feel of solid sterling silver.
