Presented tonight is this spectacular Hopi Kachina doll depicting the Broadface Kachina. As one of the Angry Kachinas, he performs very important guard duties at the ceremonial dances.  He is very impressively expressed here by Philbert Polyestewa, of Moencopi, a talented carver and highly respected carver. This incredible doll stands 8 and a half inches tall, and is beautifully carved from Cottonwood root. The treatment of the sash is especially realistic, and the feather bundle behind the crest is composed of over 60 individually carved feathers. The depiction of the wide, enigmatic face is one of the best representations of the Broadface i have ever seen.
