This is the nicest piece of William Hutton silver plate that I have even seen, comparable in sculptural and decorative quality to one of their sterling pieces.
It came from a Manchester on the Sea Massachusetts estate that had been in the family for generations, old money. They protected it well over the generations.
I have not attempted to clean this in any way but will leave the polishing to you as you desire.
It is a marvel on rococo botanical flourishes with acanthus leaves, scrolls, and florals with naturalistic “twig branch” styled handles. They have rich surface designs that adds to the naturalistic feel of real leaves! There are raised leaves at the base of the handles. Gives it a sculptural feel. A scalloped rim.
The glorious decoration is intense and complex and creates a display piece that stands out as along the lines of a museum piece.
Nearly every part of this has this intricate rococo design.
It is marked on the base with Wm H & S then another S then Epbm then their model number 0935.
Their high end Brittania line of silver plate.
A big 5 inches tall and 8 inches across from handle to handle. 2 handles of course.
It could use a polishing, but it displays well as is as a beautiful antique with years of patina.
Substantial and solid, with a rich patina from the years.
It is a bonbon/ sweet meat/ nut dish.
The ornate craftsmanship will stand out in your home decor and generate admiration from guests. The glow from candles light on your dinner table will bring out the sculptural quality of the surface.
Heavy for its size, amazing quality.
I cannot find any flaws other than typical minor rubs that are indeed minor. A few little surface scratches near the top but minor. Some typical irregularities as expected from a hand crafted item.
This may start you on a lifelong hunt for Hutton pieces to expand your collection! Bring old world, old money charm to your home and show off your good taste!
