Foam pre-filter captures larger particles such as dust before they make it further into the filter. Activated carbon filter absorbs smells and odors in the air such as food, fish, smoke, pet smells and more. Filter traps particles 0.3 microns or larger.

It is recommended to replace the filters every 6 months, but they can last much longer depending on usage and environment.
