My mentor in card collecting recently downsized houses and so was getting rid of a lot of his collection. In short, he gave me a massive two-sided box of 50’s and 60’s. One of the biggest surprises was that this collection had a unique subset. My mentor’s childhood friend had given him a very large amount of signed cards. Apparently this friend grew up in the Atlanta area and his dad was a manager at the hotel by the stadium where all of the visiting teams would stay. And so over the years his dad would bring him to meet the visiting teams. In total, he had almost one hundred signed 50’s and 60’s topps cards--some from very exciting players.
