   Up for sale is an Oct 12, 1857 Stock Certificate from the Lime Rock Bank in Thomaston, ME. This Particular Certificate w/ Attached Bank Receipt shows 1 share purchased by A.W. Kennedy of Union, ME for a total of $100. Mr. Kennedy was a Cashier for the Ship Builder's Bank in Rockland in 1855. Bank President H.G. Berry signed the certificate in Dec of 1857 due to the change of Bank Presidents. Slight browning of paper and light stains. Last 2 photos will show measurement.
*Hiram Gregory Berry was the Second Elected Mayor of Rockland, ME in the year 1856. Berry was on the Board of Directors at the Bank when President Knott Crockett died on Oct 19, 1857. He took over as bank president as this time. This particular certificate was signed 2 months later, after it was issued, because of the death of the previous President during this date. Berry resigned in 1861 to fight for the Union. He was involved in the First Battle of Manasses and after serving gallently at Bull Run, he was promoted to Brigadier General in 1862. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Maj. General and commanded the 2nd Division of the III Corps.  
He was killed by a Sharpshooter in 1863 during the Battle of Chancellorsville. 
*Lime Rock Bank was founded in an area that was known for it's limestone quarries.
