Vintage Ronson Standard petrol lighter, made in Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. Based on the base markings and comparison with similar examples, this piece can be dated to the post-war period, approximately the late 1940s to early 1950s, most likely circa 1949–1953.

The lighter features Ronson’s elegant compact design with a chrome-finished metal body and decorative brown enamel panels, likely in a tortoise enamel style, consistent with mid-20th century decorative trends. The base metal body was likely made of brass and then chrome or nickel plated.

The front has an engraved “Chick” nameplate/personal inscription, which appears to be non-factory / owner-added, giving the piece added individuality and vintage character.

The underside is marked RONSON, NEWARK N.J. U.S.A., RONSON “STANDARD”, along with patent markings.

Condition: vintage condition with normal signs of age and use, including surface scratches, finish wear, and general cosmetic wear to the metal and decorative panels.

Working condition: the lighter is working and produces a flame, but it does not ignite on the first try every time. This may be due to a new flint being installed, or the striker wheel possibly needing additional cleaning for more reliable spark production.

A very attractive and collectible vintage Ronson lighter, ideal for collectors of tobacciana, vintage accessories, and mid-century American design.
