Preserve a piece of history with this pair of authentic US Army Medical Department "Patient's Effects" bags. These heavy-duty olive drab canvas bags were the personal lockers for wounded soldiers in field hospitals, designed to keep their most precious belongings safe during recovery or evacuation.
Both bags feature the crisp, iconic black caduceus medical symbol flanked by "U S" and the bold "BAG, PATIENT'S EFFECTS" stencil. A white fabric patch is sewn to the front, intended for the soldier’s name or ID number. One bag is marked internally with "HERBERGER TEXTILES, INC." and both retain their protective waterproof inner lining—a feature often deteriorated or removed in surviving examples. One waterproof lining is aged and brittle but intact.
Condition Note: Excellent vintage condition. The canvas is sturdy with minor age-related fading and light storage wear that adds to the character. Drawstrings are intact and functional.
