Liu Bao Jun (1963) is a professional painter from China. Bao Jun’s works have been featured in a variety of exhibitions in China, including the Shanghai International Art Fair, Shanghai Music Hall Art Show, first prize in a Liaoning Province film poster challenge, and a ShangHai Art Legend Gallery Solo Show.  Although Bao Jun is well known in China, his work has only recently come to the United States.

Bao Jun’s work reflects a multi-faceted commentary on Chinese culture across time and geography. Particularly his series of Chinese women smoking opium plays with the stereotypes surrounding portrayals of Chinese women in art, specifically the way that portraying these women participating in taboo behaviors with unconventional bodies undoes and illuminates the pervasive influence of clichés. At once meditative and playful, Bao Jun’s works are provocative statement pieces that inventively mesh old and new. The artist chooses the objects come from traditional Chinese culture, but also adds a western technology. With a deep understanding of Chinese culture, it integrates it into modern art. And thus Leo Bao Jun creates aesthetic images that you will remember forever.

Liu Bao Jun has become a rising star in mainland China’s contemporary art scene, as well as gaining considerable recognition abroad
