Hello.
Up for sale is a finely detailed, Japanese hand-carved stag bone figurine depicting a skeleton in a classic "Memento Mori" pose. This piece, features an intricate design of a skeleton standing atop a base of multiple skulls while holding a smaller skull in its arms. It measures approximately 2 7/8" x 1" x 1/2".
Carved from genuine bone (note the natural "pitting" and grain visible in photos), the skeleton represents of mortality and the impermanence of life, common in Japanese netsuke and Buddhist art. It features detailed ribbing, hollowed eye sockets, and a textured loincloth. This piece can serve as a desktop okimono (display piece) or potentially as a large netsuke toggle for a collection. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you.
