WW2 US Army M-1 Combat Helmet & Liner from the US XV (15th) Corps. This helmet and liner are from the 1940s

The hard steel helmet has scratches and missing paint in spots. The one chin strap bracket is missing in the side.
The shell has lots of scratches & lots of chips to the paint that covers the composite material the helmet is made of. The decals on the sides may have been replaced at one time. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS. There is wear and chipping to the decals. The inside bottom is discolored...looks like there may have been water laying in it at one point.

Historical Background of the XV Corps:
Activation: The XV Corps was activated on February 15, 1943, at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana.
World War II Service: The unit landed in Normandy and became operational on July 31, 1944. It participated in major campaigns including the breakout from Normandy (Operation Cobra), the liberation of Le Mans, and subsequent advances through France and into Germany, ending the war in southern Germany and Austria.
