This is a Juvel pattern pie server, originally designed by Nils Hansen for the Norwegian company Th. Marthinsen.
The piece has a notable dual identity:
The Pattern & Silver: The handle features the "Juvel" pattern, a classic Norwegian design. The 830S mark indicates it is made of "continental silver," a standard in Scandinavia (especially Norway) meaning it is 83% pure silver.
The blade is marked "W.J.A. Baxter Ltd Sheffield" [Image]. W. & J.A. Baxter was a firm of cutlery merchants based in Sheffield, England, incorporated in 1933. It was common for Sheffield firms to import high-quality silver handles from Scandinavia and fit them with their own renowned Sheffield stainless steel blades for the British market. In this case it appears the steel may have been imported from Germany hence the “Rostfrei” mark on the blade as well.
So, we have German steel made into a blade by some of the finest of English silversmiths with an imported .830 silver blade by a Norwegian silversmith.
