This is a Vintage Pelham Puppets "Bengo the Boxer Dog" Marionette, hand-made in England during the 1950s. It features a painted wooden body and legs, a moulded head, and felt ears.
These puppets are highly collectible pieces of British toy history.
Whilst we no longer have the original box, we do have a printed copy of the Pelham Puppet instructions -- from another Pelham Poodle puppet we have -- which will be included with "Bengo" so you can have fun making him do all the actions and movements which add to these hand-made puppets' charm.
Details:- Character: Bengo was a popular and charming character from the "TV Pets" series and he also appeared in early "Blue Peter" cartoon shorts. The character was originally based on storybooks by William Timym.
Production Era: The puppets were primarily manufactured in Marlborough, Wiltshire, during the 1950s and 1960s.
Materials & Construction: The puppet features a hand-painted wooden body and legs, a hollow molded composition head, and brown felt ears.
Variations: This puppet appears to be a "Type A" model, which was the first version of this character.
Please see the photos for further information on condition. Bengo has been loved and played with so he has some worn paint and marks commensurate with his Vintage condition and age. From a smoke-free household.
