The instrument is thought to be an antique 19th-century 4/4 full size German violin with several unique features. It is signed Gollhelf on the outside of the left rib when viewing from the front and has an antique Becker's chin and shoulder rest. This violin is from the pre-1930 time period, making it a collectible for musical instrument enthusiasts.
As you can see, it has a very dark varnish or lacquer. There is no paper label inside that I can see there is a sound post in place with a string tied to it. The violin strings are ancient. I doubt if it’s playable with them but it may be a nice project or parts violin. It weighs 1 pound one and an 8 ounce as it sits right now. If nothing more, it could make a nice theater prop.
