This is a folded leaflet memorial of Presbyterian missionary George Whitefield Coan (1849-1879). Coan was born in Genesee County, New York and graduated from William College (1846) and the Union Theological Seminary (1849). He worked for two separate periods of 13 and 10 years as a missionary in Ooroomiah (now Urmia, Western Azerbaijan Province Iran), then in the Ottoman Empire. His work supported Presbyterian missions to Kurds, native Christians, and others in this major Persian city.
