This style of antique copper repoussé embellished copper soap carrier was used up through the end of the Ottoman Empire (and maybe as late as the 1940's) as soap carriers that were used in the Hammams, or Turkish bath houses. It shows repoussé hammer work designs and differing patina colors.

Over the years, these unique folk items were labeled as cricket cages, and even turned into fashionable purses during the post mid 20th century.
