DESIGNER: PAUL SCHEURICH (1883-1945)
Painter, small sculptor, graphic artist, draftsman and set designer. From 1900-02 he studied at the art academy in Berlin. He worked for Meissen between 1913 and 1936. Scheurich is undoubtedly one of the most important porcelain sculptors in the first half of the 20th century. century. His customers included KPM, Nymphenburg, Meissen, among others.
'MASKED DANCER' ACCORDING TO 'HOFFMANN'S TALES'
Dancer standing on one leg in a white Bajazzo suit with blue tassels, on his head the characteristic cap with an extra-long shield and rooster feathers protruding far back, lifting his right leg and turning while looking at a grotesque mask.
The figure is supported from behind by a stylized plant and is based on a white, stepped oval base.
ABOUT THE DRAFT: Scheurich was inspired by a graphic template from Jacques Callot's 'Balli di Sfessania' as well as the opera 'Hoffmann's Tales' by Jacques Offenbach, based on the stories by ETA Hoffmann, as inspiration for his dancer, designed around 1931 to 1933.

Painter, sculptor, graphic artist, drawer and stage designer; he studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin/Germany during the years 1900-02. He worked for the Meissen factory from 1913 to 1936. Undoubtedly he belonged to one of the most important porcelain designers of the first half of 20th century. His customers were for example porcelain manufactories such as KPM, Nymphenburg, Meissen.

ON THE DESIGN: Scheurich drew inspiration for his dancer, designed between 1931 and 1933, from both a graphic template from Jacques Callot's 'Balli di Sfessania' and Jacques Offenbach's opera “The Tales of Hoffmann”, based on the stories by ETA Hoffmann.
