Description: Pre-Civil War U.S. Coast Survey nautical
chart of the Legare Anchorage in the Florida Reefs, dated 1855, before the
Civil War. This scarce mid-19th century chart was published as #28 in the
Report of the Superintendent of the Coast Survey showing the progress made in
the survey for the year 1856 under the supervision of A. D. Bache. The chart provides
extensive sounding and bottom information (Foul Ground) for the waters west of
Elliott’s and Sands Keys, sketches in the upper left. The chart locates buoys, and includes aids
and hazards to navigation, notes, information on tides and currents.
Condition:
Folding chart in good
antique condition, printed on sturdy, mildly age-toned paper, darker along
folds, a few light spots.
