An incredibly rare piece featuring art portraits afterLuis Ricardo Falero (1851-1896) also known as “Duke of Labaranzo”
**Antique French Patented Triptych Vanity Mirror with Portrait Panels After Luis Ricardo Falero, Dated 1876**
An exceptionally decorative **late 19th-century French patented triptych vanity mirror**, richly appointed with an ornate gilt-tone filigree surround and fitted with romantic portrait panels in the academic taste. The frame bears the marks **“Patent No. 182635 / 26 Sept 1876”** and **“Breveté S.G.D.G.”**, identifying it as a patented French design of the period.
This elegant piece opens to reveal a central mirror flanked by hinged side mirrors, while the exterior and interior are adorned with finely rendered female portrait panels in historical costume. One portrait closely corresponds to **“Girl with a Red Bodice,”** a composition attributed to **Luis Ricardo Falero**
The portraits possess a wonderfully atmospheric, time-softened surface with visible craquelure, age-darkened varnish, and an appealing antique patina that complements the architectural richness of the frame. A small area of loss at the edge appears to reveal **canvas beneath the surface**, suggesting the panels are canvas-based rather than simple paper inserts; however, the piece has not been dismantled, and construction is described only to the best of my knowledge based on visual inspection.
This is a striking and unusual object that works beautifully as both **decorative art and functional antique mirror**, equally suited to collectors of **Victorian interiors, French decorative arts, vanity mirrors, and romantic academic portraiture**.
