Koishiwara ware is said to have its origins in 1682, when the third lord of the Chikuzen Fukuoka domain began making pottery, following the example of Imari, where porcelain production was popular. When the kiln first opened, there was a time when porcelain was made, but from 1669 onwards, it developed through interaction with Takatori ware, which was producing tea pottery in the same area, and began making pottery. A major feature of Koishiwara ware is the pattern in which the pottery is rotated on a potter's wheel and the pottery is poured regularly using a blade or brush. Techniques called ``tobi plane'' and ``hakeme'' create patterns that are orderly yet warm. They have continued to make everyday items throughout the ages, and are still loved throughout Japan.
