This machine was working perfectly until . . . I didn't use it for 6 months, and then powered it up recently. It ran for about 20 secs. and then "POW!", a loud pop was heard, and it shut down (with the tape still in it).  Now it WILL NOT POWER UP.  I assume I blew a capacitor in the power supply area. I opened up the power supply and looked for obvious signs of a leaky cap but didn't see any (see photos). Possibly it was just a fuse - but I doubt it.

  I put the machine on a bench and was able to extricate the tape (by cutting it!) but I believe the tape loading tray/mechanism needs some attention - at least some lubrication with lithium grease.

  This model has all the pro features: Hi-Fi audio in and out, S-video in and out, Sync in, TC in and out, composite in and out (x2), monitor out, built-in TBC, jog/shuttle wheel, etc. 

  There is a hole in the small plastic window of the counter display (near the jog/shuttle knob). See photo.
