How to replace a radiator cooling fan：
Before You Start：
- Confirm the Issue: Make sure the fan itself is bad (not a fuse or relay) by checking for symptoms like overheating at idle or the fan not spinning.
- Gather Tools: You'll need sockets (often 10mm, 13mm, etc.), a ratchet, screwdrivers, pliers, a drain pan, towels, and potentially a trim removal tool.
- Safety First: Disconnect the negative terminal of your car's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
- Coolant: Have a drain pan and towels ready to catch coolant; you'll likely need to drain some.
Step-by-Step Guide：
- Access the Fan: Remove the engine cover, air intake, and any shrouds or closeout panels blocking the fan assembly.
- Disconnect Hoses & Wiring: Unclip the electrical connector(s) and use pliers to loosen clamps on hoses connected to the radiator/fan shroud, being ready to catch coolant.
- Remove Fan Assembly: Unbolt the fan assembly from the radiator support (often top and sides) and carefully lift it out, maneuvering around obstructions.
- Swap Components:
- If replacing the whole assembly: Just install the new unit.
- If replacing just the motor/blade: Remove fasteners (screws/keepers) to separate the blade from the motor shaft, then unbolt the motor from the housing, and install the new motor and blade assembly.
- Reinstallation:
- Place the new fan assembly back in, ensuring it seats correctly.
- Reattach all hoses, clamps, and electrical connections.
- Reinstall engine covers and panels.
- Reconnect the battery.
- Refill Coolant: Refill the radiator with the correct coolant type and bleed the system of air as per your vehicle's manual.
How to replace a new radiator：
- Isolate the Radiator: Turn off the central heating and allow it to cool. Close the thermostatic valve (turn to 0) and the lockshield valve (clockwise) on the other end to isolate the radiator.
- Drain the Radiator: Place buckets and towels underneath the valves. Use a radiator key to open the bleed valve at the top to let air in, then slowly loosen the nuts connecting the valves to the radiator to drain the water.
- Remove the Old Radiator: Once drained, disconnect both valves completely. Lift the radiator off its wall brackets.
- Install the New Radiator: Swap the old brackets for new ones if necessary. Install new valve tails (included with the new radiator) using PTFE tape for a watertight seal.
- Reconnect and Refill: Hang the new radiator on the brackets. Reconnect the valves, tightening the nuts with a wrench.
- Check for Leaks and Bleed: Turn on the valves, check for leaks, and open the bleed valve to release trapped air until water comes out. Top up the system pressure at the boiler if necessary.
