US Military Issue SWEETHEART JEWELRY USN Ring

Description

US military surplus
During World War II in the 1940s, it was customary for soldiers going off to war to give jewelry to their families and loved ones back home. This was called sweetheart jewelry, and it often featured designs related to the soldier's military unit, encompassing a wide range of items such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, and brooches.

This is a ring with the US Navy (USN) marking. It was originally a spoon or fork, which was cut and bent into a coil shape to make a ring.

The reverse side reads "National Silver Co. A1". National Silver was a major American cutlery manufacturer that was active in the first half of the 20th century, and was famous for manufacturing silver utensils and supplying them to the military.
A1 indicates the "standard" grade of silver plating. This doesn't mean it's low quality; rather, it's said that because it's for military use, they deliberately used silver plating instead of soft pure silver, taking into account the environment in which it would be used. The pattern adorning the entire piece is based on the ROSE & LEAF pattern introduced by National Silver in 1937, which was used for the luxurious cutlery used in officer's mess kits.

Inner diameter approximately 21mm
I think it's about a size 25-26, and it's quite large, but since it's a spring-like design, I think the size can be adjusted by stretching.

While many military-style rings are listed for sale, the majority of the college ring types are souvenir-quality replicas based on 1940s designs. Vintage-style processing and date markings are commonplace, making it difficult to determine their age.
Even if it says it's from the 1940s, if it's too clean, it's almost certainly a replica, so please be careful.
