Vehicle Fitment

  • 1999-2004 Porsche 911 Carrera (996, RWD, 3.4L / 3.6L H6, Sport Suspension)
  • 2001-2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (996, AWD, 3.6L H6, Sport Suspension)
  • 2002 Porsche 911 Targa (996, RWD, 3.6L H6, Sport Suspension)
  • 2004 Porsche 911 40th Anniversary Edition (996, RWD, 3.6L H6)
  • 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera (996, RWD, 3.6L H6, Sport Suspension)

Fitment Notes

  • Fits Porsche 911 996 models equipped with Sport Suspension only — the 996 was offered with both standard (comfort) and sport suspension configurations; verify your vehicle's suspension option before ordering
  • Sport Suspension on the 996 features stiffer spring rates and different strut geometry compared to the standard setup — this strut is calibrated specifically for that configuration
  • Does NOT fit the 996-generation 911 Turbo, GT2, or GT3 — those models use purpose-built, higher-specification suspension components
  • Fixed spring seat is integrated into the strut assembly — the front coil spring mounts directly to this unit
  • Dust boot not included — the factory boot is reused or must be sourced separately
  • Not recommended for use with lowering springs — engineered to restore OE sport ride height and factory ride quality
  • Sold individually — two units required for a complete front axle replacement
  • Replaces OEM Porsche part numbers: 996 343 041 16, 996 343 041 17, 996 343 041 18, 996 343 041 19, 996 343 041 21, 996 343 041 22, 996 343 041 29, 996 343 041 37, 996 343 041 38, 996 343 041 40, 996 343 041 41

Features

  • Twin-tube gas-pressurized design delivers consistent, OE-matched damping performance calibrated specifically for the 996-generation 911's Sport Suspension geometry, spring rates, and handling character
  • Bilstein was the original equipment strut supplier for Sport Suspension-equipped 996 Carreras — this unit restores the precise front suspension feel and steering response these cars were factory-engineered to deliver
  • Integrated fixed spring seat ensures correct front suspension geometry, ride height, and load distribution with factory coil springs
  • Stem upper mount and base cup lower mount correspond precisely to the 996 platform's front strut attachment points — direct bolt-on installation using existing hardware
  • Gas-charged twin-tube construction prevents oil foaming under the sustained high-load damping cycles characteristic of sport driving, maintaining stable and predictable front-end behavior
  • Engineered and validated to meet or exceed Porsche's original equipment specifications for the 996 Sport Suspension front strut
  • Black painted finish for corrosion resistance and clean, professional appearance
  • Backed by Bilstein's Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturer defects for gas pressure shock absorbers and struts

Product Description

The Bilstein 22-113337 is a B4 OE Replacement front strut assembly engineered specifically for the 1999-2005 Porsche 911 Carrera (996 generation) equipped with the factory Sport Suspension option, as well as the 2002 911 Targa and the 2004 40th Anniversary Edition. Bilstein was the original equipment supplier for the Sport Suspension-equipped 996 platform, and this twin-tube gas-pressurized strut is built to the same dimensional and damping specifications as the factory unit — restoring the sharp, precise front-end behavior that defines the 996's driving character. The integrated fixed spring seat carries the factory front coil spring directly, maintaining the correct ride height, suspension geometry, and spring alignment without requiring additional hardware.

Sport Suspension fitment is a critical requirement for this part. The 996 911 was produced with both a standard comfort-tuned suspension and a stiffer Sport Suspension option, and the two configurations use different strut assemblies with different valving and geometry. Ordering the correct strut for your specific suspension specification is essential — if your 996 is equipped with the standard suspension, a different Bilstein part number applies. The 911 Turbo, GT2, and GT3 variants of the 996 generation use purpose-built high-performance suspension components and are not covered by this part number.

The twin-tube gas-pressurized construction resists oil aeration and foam formation under sustained, high-load damping — particularly important on a rear-engine sports car where front suspension precision has a direct influence on high-speed balance and steering feedback. The factory dust boot is not included and should be reused from the original strut or sourced separately. Two units are required for a complete front axle replacement. This strut is not recommended for use with aftermarket lowering springs and is covered by Bilstein's Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturer defects.
