Vehicle Fitment

  • 2006–2010 BMW M6 Coupe (E63) — with EDC (Electronic Damping Control)
  • 2006–2010 BMW M6 Convertible / Cabriolet (E64) — with EDC (Electronic Damping Control)

Fitment Notes

  • This is a DampTronic shock designed exclusively for BMW M6 vehicles equipped with the factory EDC (Electronic Damping Control) system — it is NOT compatible with M6 models without EDC
  • Rear position only — fits both driver and passenger sides (sold individually; order 2 for a complete rear axle upgrade)
  • Chassis codes: E63 (Coupe) and E64 (Convertible/Cabriolet)
  • Must be used with factory OE coil springs — not intended for use with lowering springs; Bilstein recommends the B8 Performance Plus series for lowered applications
  • Fully plug-and-play with factory EDC electronics — retains all OEM suspension modes, drive mode adjustability, and in-cabin damper controls with no reprogramming required
  • Boot is not included with this shock
  • OEM cross-reference part numbers: 33522283992, 33522283993, 33522283067, 33522283537, 33532283992

Features

  • Bilstein B6 Performance (DampTronic) — a performance-grade monotube upgrade to the factory electronic damper, specifically engineered to interface with BMW's EDC system while delivering superior damping performance
  • Fully compatible with BMW's factory Electronic Damping Control (EDC) system — all factory drive modes, suspension settings, and in-cabin controls remain fully operational after installation
  • 66mm large-bore monotube design eliminates the cavitation and performance fade inherent in the factory twin-tube design, delivering consistent, responsive damping across all EDC settings
  • High-pressure monotube gas design prevents oil aeration (foaming) even under sustained high-load, high-speed driving — maintaining full damping capability where factory shocks would degrade
  • Vehicle-specific valve settings developed and tested for the BMW M6 E63/E64 application, delivering improved cornering stability, body control, and driver feedback
  • Works with factory OE coil springs for a clean, straightforward bolt-on upgrade that retains factory ride height
  • Bilstein's patented seamless monotube tube design maximizes heat dissipation and extends service life beyond factory twin-tube dampers
  • Independent compression and rebound tuning via Bilstein's digressive piston design provides optimum ride comfort and performance without compromise
  • Finish: Yellow Paint — Bilstein's signature yellow coating, providing corrosion resistance and instant brand recognition
  • Made in Germany to OE-plus quality standards with a limited lifetime warranty

Product Description

The Bilstein 26-234229 B6 Performance (DampTronic) Rear Shock Absorber is a precision-engineered monotube upgrade for the 2006–2010 BMW M6 in both Coupe (E63) and Convertible (E64) body styles — specifically for vehicles equipped with EDC (Electronic Damping Control). DampTronic is Bilstein's designation for shocks that are engineered to electronically interface with BMW's factory damper control system, and the 26-234229 is fully plug-and-play: every factory EDC function, drive mode, and in-cabin suspension control operates exactly as designed after installation. No reprogramming, no warning lights, no loss of features. This makes it the ideal upgrade for M6 owners who want meaningfully better damping performance without giving up any of the sophisticated electronic suspension functionality they paid for.

The primary limitation of the factory E63/E64 M6 damper is its twin-tube construction, which is susceptible to cavitation and performance fade under the sustained high-load conditions the M6's high-revving 5.0L V10 invites on spirited drives and track days. The Bilstein 26-234229 replaces this with a 66mm large-bore monotube design pressurized with high gas pressure nitrogen — a construction that physically cannot cavitate and maintains full damping capability regardless of heat load or repeated hard use. The monotube's larger bore and greater oil volume also improve heat management substantially over the factory unit. Application-specific valve settings developed and tested for the M6 chassis deliver noticeably sharper body control, better cornering stability, and more precise driver feedback — improvements felt across all EDC modes, from Comfort to Sport.

This shock is designed to be used with factory OE coil springs at stock ride height. For applications using lowering springs, Bilstein recommends the B8 Performance Plus series instead. No boot is included; a dust boot should be sourced separately if desired. The 26-234229 is sold individually and fits both the driver and passenger side rear positions — order two for a complete rear axle upgrade. With the limited lifetime warranty and Bilstein's OE-plus quality standards, this is the most reliable and highest-performing rear damper solution available for the EDC-equipped E63/E64 BMW M6.
