An 85mm hole is much larger than a standard Copal #3 (65mm). There are two primary reasons a board would have a hole this size:
Large Vintage Shutters: This hole was likely custom-drilled for a massive vintage shutter. For comparison, a
Large Aperture Portrait Lenses: This size is common for mounting "Big Glass"—heavy, fast portrait lenses like a Wollensak Verito or a large Petzval lens. These lenses often have a mounting flange that is screwed onto the front of the board, requiring a wide clearance hole for the rear lens element.
