Marantz 2230 Stereo Receiver- Hear It Play!

All functions tested and perform perfectly. Nice cosmetically. A dial lamp is in need of replacement, Easy to fix, or easy to live with.

The Marantz 2230 is one of the most famous vintage stereo receivers ever made. Produced in the early 1970s, it’s part of the golden era of analog hi-fi—and still highly sought after today. Many collectors consider it one of the most musical receivers ever made. A budget-friendly way to get that signature “Marantz sound”. Warm, rich, slightly tube-like character

Power output: 30 watts per channel (8 ohms)

Inputs: Phono (turntable), AUX, tape loop

Preamp/main amp jumpers (can separate sections for upgrades)

Despite “only” 30 watts, it sounds more powerful than the numbers suggest. Most speakers from the 80’s on are highly efficient, so while a “Monster Receiver” is certainly desirable, this is likely all you need for home listening.

Against the advice of many, I began selling vintage stereo on eBay almost a decade ago. It’s been great fun, I’ve made some new friends and have gotten to enjoy at least one example of every vintage stereo piece ever made (at least for a while!). Problems are few. Unlike other eBay categories, vintage audio people are a very honest, reasonable, (and occasionally forgiving) lot. And you’ll find me a fair-minded person to deal with. This space operates best on mutual reasonableness. There are minor imperfections in almost every 40-60 year old piece of gear, and occasionally I might fail to mention a small flaw or miss one feature or another during testing-- and most understand that. Since you can’t pre-listen to an eBay item in your home and determine how it sounds with your speakers, I do make all items returnable—on the buyer’s dime. Every piece is invisibly marked. Returns are checked to ensure I’m getting exact same  item back and there are no missing parts. Non-conforming returns are reported to eBay. But like I said— we swim in very honest waters and “switcheroo” return attempts have happened only a handful of times in 7000+ sales.

Due to the age of this device and the uncertain nature of vintage electronics, this equipment is being sold AS IS. This is NOT a new component.  As such, it does not come with any guarantee-- implied or written. Vintage audio equipment is sensitive and does not travel particularly well. So in rare instances, that which was working 100% at my house may require adjustment or servicing before working equally well at yours (this is especially true of turntables and tape machines. Most on-line sales of vintage electronics happen under these exact same conditions—but I just wanted to point this out so there are no misunderstandings or disappointments.

Your order will be well packed, and shipped promptly, although local pickup is encouraged. I meet Portland-area locals at the McDonalds on Hwy 30 in the Northwest Industrial part of town, which seems pretty close for everybody and easily accessible,
