You are bidding on a Sylvanus Thayer West Point wooden framed Chess Set. Made in 1994 by The Newmarket Gallery, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Brass chess board measures 4" high x 21" wide x 21" deep. As shown above, the condition of the set is not new, but used.  The rooks suffered some damage, but were repaired.   I think very few are still in circulation. Sylvanus Thayer was a former Superintendent of West Point and is known as "The Father of West Point". He was an avid player of chess and this board was made as a dedication to his passion.

The original set is on display at the West Point museum.  Pieces are a type of bisque to mimic the ones at West Point carved out of bone.

These sets rarely come up for sale, and I searched for 10 years prior to acquiring this one.  Yes, 1992 grad here…Brave and the Few”.  I collect all things West Point.  Kids don’t want it, so clarifying my collection.

Super neat, used and played with.  If you collect academy items, this is a cool get.  If you have a 2026 grad or an Old Grad…this would be cool as well.

Save me as a seller for West Point items, I will be posting more.
