This is the upper mounting plate for the rear strut. It contains a heavy-duty rubber bushing that absorbs road shocks and a metal plate that bolts the strut assembly to the car's body. Over time, the rubber in these mounts hardens and cracks, leading to "clunking" noises or a harsh ride.
