Hachette published a series of part work magazines 2002-04, each of which included a facsimile of a French Hornby tinplate M Series locomotive or item of rolling stock, although some items were 'inspired by' rather than direct copies of Hornby originals. Some issues (about 40 per cent) also included an item of track, including straight and curved track, and points (turnouts, switches). Each length of track has only two sleepers (ties) without any means of securing one length of track to the next. A box (supplied flat) was provided for each locomotive and item of rolling stock. All locomotives and rolling stock were four wheeled, and each locomotive was powered by a clockwork motor.
