This is a beautiful vintage Mahjong set featuring classic engraved and painted tiles with bamboo backs. The set includes the traditional suits — dots, bamboo, and characters — along with dragons and flower tiles, and original counting sticks, all stored neatly in a vintage wooden carrying case.
The white faces of the tiles appear to be bone or an early plastic material commonly used in mid-20th century Mahjong sets. I’m not certain of the exact composition, but the construction style (white top with bamboo back) matches bone-and-bamboo sets produced between the 1940s and 1960s in Hong Kong and China.
Features:
• Approx. 144 tiles (standard full set)
• Bamboo-backed tiles
• Includes: Counting sticks and red plastic trays
• Era: Estimated mid-20th century (1940s–1960s)
• Origin: Likely Hong Kong or China
• Condition: Very good vintage condition overall tiles. Case is a bit worn as shown in photos. Tiles show light wear consistent with age, also the case has some wear. Please see photos for details.
