Turquoise Cross Necklace, Native American Navajo in origin, with a very nice older sterling silver cross with darkened patina. The cross is cast and has a single rounded and thick nugget type turquoise stone. The cross is expertly worked and smoothly finished on the obverse side, the work obviously performed by an experienced Navajo silversmith. The turquoise stone is in excellent overall condition being a nice blue color with silvery patches of iron pyrite in the upper portion that may possibly be indicative of the Morenci, Arizona mine. There is no definite provenance from that location. It is mounted in a smooth edged bezel. Overall a very stylish and nice medium size cross at about 2 3/4 inches tall with a relatively heavy weight of about 26.7 grams. A substantial sized hook is found at the top of the reverse side. The cross is on a necklace of medium sky blue heishi beads of 4mm diameter. The heishi has some brown matrix here and there as expected. The overall length of the necklace end to end is about 26 inches. At the neck there is a sterling silver hook and eye clasp. The cross is not marked in any way but is guaranteed as sterling silver.
