The epithet paniculatus means 'panicled' (from Latin panicula = panicle), referring to the branched paniculate inflorescence. Produces a thick, water-storing succulent trunk, papery bark, succulent leaves (shed during dry season) and orange-red tubular flowers. WARNING: all parts toxic — contains cardiac glycosides causing cotyledonosis. Family Crassulaceae.
