This is a truly remarkable writing desk with striking oriental influence and exceptional presence. Crafted from solid wood, most likely elm, it displays beautiful natural wear and a wonderfully tactile, aged patina that can only come with genuine age. The desk is rich in decorative detail, with boldly protruding dragon carvings forming the drawer handles, adding both drama and character. A pierced and carved gallery rail runs along the top, featuring an additional dragon that enhances its impressive statement, while the legs and supports are also ornately carved, reflecting the quality and craftsmanship throughout.

The desk offers excellent practicality, with eight drawers and a generous working surface, and is constructed with traditional dovetailed joints. As expected with an authentic piece, there are signs of age that add to its story. There is some staining to the writing surface, an age-related split to the left side which is shown in the photographs, and the right rear leg has naturally twisted over time. Despite this, the desk remains strong, sturdy, and fully usable.
