Antique Hand Woven Tribal Kilim Saddlebags or Khorjin with Embroidered Decoration including Crossed Swords, trimmed with cord and tassels
The bags are a traditional coarse flat weave Kilim with some woven decoration. In addition, they have applied embroidered geometric designs including characteristic s-shaped protective sun figures, paired "x"'s and pairs of crossed swords. The colors are all vegetable dye, gently and evenly faded on the fronts and a bit richer on the back
The size of the saddlebags indicates that they may be for donkeys - still referred to as a "Khorjin"
Sized 34" long x 23" inches wide
Great vegetable colors and crossed swords on this antique tribal piece! Typical irregularities in the weave. Traditional flat weave with corded border and tassels and a narrower style that suited to donkeys. Solid and substantial. Cord edging has separated from bag in some spots. Front side has some even and uniform fading
