6 Section Tray of a Dark, Shimmering, Heavy Wood that Buffs to a Beautiful Tint and Glow with Dark Red Highlights.
This type of tray is often referred to as Monkey Pod, because many of them are made of Monkey Pod Wood. I cannot
identify specifically this wood, but because of the reddish tones to parts of the tray, it seems likely that it is Acacia Wood likely from Hawaii or Haiti, where many of these trays were sold in the 50's and 60's.
I cleaned this with a good wax and buffed it and it shimmers beautifully. It is a quite heavy tray, weighing 2 pounds 6 ounces.
It's 10.5 inches in diameter and about 2 inches high. There are no markings on the bottom that I have found.
It's a gorgeous, stunning tray with its wood swirls. There is no damage, but on the edges you can see where the reddish tones are showing through the wood as certain areas have been handled more.
