Watch is in great vintage condition showing all original parts. Original brown faded fat font bezel, original tritium mattte brown nipple dial is in perfect condition. Case shows wear from use but engravings on back of lugs are still strong. The plexi crystal shows cracking, this can likely be polished out or replaced but I will leave it to the new owner to decide what they prefer to do. There appears to be an engraving on the back of one of the lugs that reads "Bob", I assume this was the original owner.
The Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675/8 is the full 18k yellow gold version of the classic GMT-Master, produced from the late 1960s through the 1970s, and represents Rolex’s early move to position its tool watches within a more luxurious context. While retaining the same 40 mm case, acrylic crystal, and dual-time functionality as its steel counterparts, the 1675/8 stands apart through its weight, presence, and distinctive gold construction.
Fitted with a brown dial featuring applied gold “nipple” hour markers, the watch develops strong visual character over time, especially as the tritium lume ages and the bezel insert softens in tone. These elements, combined with gilt hands and warm gold tones, give each example a unique appearance that collectors closely evaluate for originality and patina.
Collectors appreciate the 1675/8 for its relative rarity compared to steel references and for how it blends the utilitarian GMT-Master function with a fully precious metal execution. It remains one of the more distinctive vintage Rolex sports models, offering the proportions and charm of early GMTs in a format that feels both substantial and period-correct.
