This is a 1977 framed etching and aquatint by surrealist artist SALVADOR DALI (1904-1989). It is signed and instead of a number you will find an “E.A.” On the lower left corner. This stands for “epreuve d’artiste” which in English means “Artist Proof”. These editions are set aside at the beginning of the production for the artist to approve. After approval, the numbering begins. This etching had 200 pieces produced. The piece is titled “Little Demons”. Below the etching is “Esto es, Esto no es”, which means “This is, This is not”. Dali’s inspiration was Francisco Goya’s famous 1799 Series “Los Carichos”. Dali created an 80 piece set titled “Les Capices De Goya and Dali”. This drypoint etching and heliogravure is printed on BFK Rives paper.This plate, Number 77, is a reinterpretation of Goya’s “Unos a Otros” (What one does to another). It is framed in a 19 5/8” x 23 5/8 “ black wood frame that is 1 1/2” wide and 1 1/16” thick. There is a brass plaque on the bottom that reads “Salvador Dali, 1904 - 1989”. The image size is 5 1/4” x 8 1/2”.
