According to Google, wearing an "F" to indicate Freshman status was a
common and recognizable tradition for Harvard freshmen. This tradition is associated with the "Freshman"
or "First-Year" status, and the sweaters were often given as gifts to
students at the beginning of their time at Harvard. Please note, we have not been able to verify the accuracy of this assertion.
