1962 Andrews Raid - 1862 Great Locomotive Chase - Bronze Medal with US Stamps W1

The stamp on the obverse features the Hudson's General, a Civil War Era Locomotive (Scott# 2843). Stamp was issued in 1994.
The stamp on the reverse features "Honoring Railroad Engineers of America (Scott# 993). Stamp was issued in 1950.
On April 12, 1862, Union spy James J. Andrews and raiders stole the Confederate locomotive General at Big Shanty, GA, intending to destroy the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Conductor William A. Fuller heroically pursued them on foot, by handcar, and eventually using the engines Yona and Texas, traveling 62 miles in reverse to force the raiders to abandon the train.
*** Medal and stamps were acquired separately then encased in new medal holder for display and protection.
*** Oversized holder for medal and stamps is 3 in. x 4in., larger than regular size coin holders.
