A gorgeous antique French champlevé enamel brooch, dating from around 1890-1905. Such brooches were created by the skilled application of jewel-coloured enamels into recessed cells, a technique associated with Limoges. Its symmetrical Moorish-inspired pattern reflects the romantic Orientalist taste of the late Victorian era. By this time fashion had shifted from large, heavy brooches to daintier pins such as this, often worn in multiples scattered artistically across the bodice. Please examine the photos for details.
