FX certificate series A
The Foreign Exchange Certificates, Series "A," were created for use by visitors from communist ("socialist", COMECON) countries while traveling in the country. These certificates were purchased with foreign currencies from those countries—such as rubles, złotych, or East German marks—or with traveler’s checks. They were issued at a fixed exchange rate of 1 Peso = 1 U.S. Dollar = 0.90 Soviet Rouble. Certificates remained valid for five years from the date of issue, after which they could only be exchanged for ordinary pesos. Notes are inscribed in Spanish, English and (instead of French:) Russian, reflecting the type of user this series was meant for, i.e. mostly Eastern European and/or Soviet.
