I have for sale an authentic 19th century hand-carved end-grain boxwood wood engraving printing block, originally used for letterpress printing.

This finely detailed portrait block dates to the late 1800s and shows excellent craftsmanship typical of Victorian wood engravers. The quality of line work and shading demonstrates professional studio work rather than amateur carving.

The portrait may depict H.N. Maguire (Horatio Nelson Maguire), journalist and spiritualist publisher, based on research comparing the image to known references. However, this attribution cannot be confirmed with certainty and is offered as informed opinion only.

These original printing blocks are increasingly sought after by collectors of printing history, Victorian ephemera, and decorative display pieces.

Condition: Displays rich, dark patina from historical ink use. There is a natural separation at the joined seam, common with antique woodblocks of this age. Structurally solid with crisp carved detail.

Size: Approximately 13cm x 10.5cm (see ruler photographs).

Please view all of the pictures as they form a part of the description.

I have 100% positive feedback for over 400 items sold so feel free to take a look.

POSTAGE: I always post within 24 hours (weekends not included. If purchased after 1pm Saturday it will be sent Monday unless it is a bank holiday).

Any questions please don't hesitate to message me.
