There is a sticker on the underside that reads "Seto-yaki"(瀬戸焼). 'Seto-yaki' is a general term for porcelain products made in Seto Japan, which includes all kinds of porcelain items such as animal, human, Disney and more figurines, and also chinaware for practical as well as decorative purposes. "Seto" is a city located in the center of Japan, and is also the center for Japan's ceramics industry.

Plenty of dog figurines in the 70s and 80s were produced in Japan and exported worldwide under various brand names, such as Shafford, Napco or Lefton... Those manufacturers now no longer exist. But some of their casting molds have been passed down and some dog breeds are still made in very limited quantities.
