This is a stunning, authentic piece of Central American folk art. This hand-carved wooden dance mask originates from Guatemala and was likely used in traditional festival performances such as the Baile de la Conquista (Dance of the Conquest) or the Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians). It features a powerful, primitive aesthetic with unique architectural "flange" ears and a fierce, notched tooth expression.

Details & Condition:

Carved from a single block of wood. The interior shows original chisel/adze marks and a darkened patina from contact with the wearer's face, confirming its ethnographic use.
Features a vibrant, "spattered" polychrome finish in red, yellow, black, and blue. The paint shows a beautiful aged crackle and natural wear.
Notable notched teeth and small, circular pierced eyeholes for the dancer.
