A heavy quarto of 450 pages that is a "virtual encyclopedia of the undersea world" with color photographs on every page. "Eighteen lively chapters cover all aspects of life in the sea: evolution, reproduction, foodgetting, motion in the sea, communication, attack and defense mechanisms, legends and tales, life in the polar regions and in the abyss, and the future of the oceans." White cloth with the stamped lettering. Near fine with faint soiling along lower board edges. In a very good jacket with a short tear at spine crown and the front flap slightly stretched at the fold. A spectacular photo of a clown fish in an anemone on the cover. Truly a centerpiece addition to any coffee table near or far from the coast. Near fine / Very good.
