Obsidian is formed through powerful volcanic eruptions and is a natural glass created by rapidly cooling lava. Obsidian is technically not a mineral as it forms too quickly to form an internal crystalline structure.

Obsidian was first mentioned in the ancient Roman book named “Natural History” by Pliny the Elder in 77 AD and scripted in Latin. Traces of obsidian being used as both weapons and tools date as far back as 7,000 years ago. Obsidian was highly valued in the ancient world for arrowheads and blades as they were easily able to be worked with, and yet very durable.  Obsidian’s most interesting fact is that of its past usage; it was polished for the sole purpose of being used as early mirrors before glass was established.

Thanks to obsidians naturally unusual properties reflects in its unique vibrations. It is a stone of protection and divination. Silver Sheen Obsidian is a rare variety of Obsidian found primarily in Mexico. It's alluring iridescence is created by small inclusions of water vapour bubbles trapped inside the black volcanic glass. The bubbles reflect back the light as a metallic silver or gold.

Silver Sheen Obsidian is associated with the zodiac of Sagittarius and the planet Earth.
