St. Jude (Jude Thaddeus) was one of Jesus's Twelve Apostles, known as the patron saint of desperate or impossible causes, often invoked for hope in hopeless situations, distinct from Judas Iscariot; he's depicted with a flame of the Holy Spirit and an image of Jesus, and is believed to have written the Epistle of Jude in the New Testament.
